Participative planning workshops help indigenous to manage their territories in the south of Amazonas State - 02/2018
On February, USAID-funded project “Nossa Terra” offered capacity building workshops to 110 indigenous leaders in their lands “09 de janeiro” and “Jiahui”, located at the Transamazônica highway (BR 230), in city of Humaitá, which is in the southern part of Amazonas State. This activity was co-funded by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and its Amazon Fund (Fundo Amazônia -FAS) and was supported by the local coordination of Brazil’s Indigenous Foundation (FUNAI).
“Nossa Terra” project supports the implementation of Brazil’s National Policy for Environmental Management of Indigenous Lands (PNGATI) in the South of Amazonas State, which directly contributes to reduce deforestation and biodiversity loss in the region. Project activities are focused on creating sustainable economic alternatives, supporting territorial protection, promoting environmental restoration, and strengthening the traditional ways of life and the indigenous associations.
