USAID and the Ministry of Environment (MMA) Officially Kicks Off SERVIR: A Global Network of Hubs Bringing Better Information to Decision-makers

MMA Secretary for International Cooperation Roberto Castelo Branco and MMA technical teams; USAID/ Brazil Mission Director and USAID Regional Staff kicked off the SERVIR Amazonia project in Brasilia April 25 with an opening technical workshop. SERVIR is a joint development initiative of NASA and USAID, and works in partnership with leading regional organizations world-wide to help countries use information provided by Earth-observing satellites and geospatial technologies to manage climate risks and land use. SERVIR empowers decision-makers with tools, products, and services to act locally on climate-sensitive issues such as disasters, agriculture, water, ecosystems and land use.  The project was highlighted by the U.S. and Brazilian delegations during the March 19th Presidential Summit in Washington DC.

Looking ahead to SERVIR Amazonia

SERVIR-Amazônia is a part of SERVIR Global. Led by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), SERVIR-Amazônia is the newest of five SERVIR regional centers. It is a five-year program (2019-2023) that will work with regional partners to promote a better understanding of needs and to use that understanding to develop tools, products and services that will enable Amazon Basin countries to improve their decision-making process and to better incorporate the voice of women, indigenous peoples and their communities into their decisions.
