Participatory Monitoring at the Jaú National Forest and Unini Extractivist Reserve

The project monitors turtles, known as hull critters in the region. In an effort to increase the turtles’ population, the local community has chosen to protect and monitor them closely in order to avoid extinction. The work is challenging due to the size of the area and the distances to be covered by boat; however, with the success of the project, more and more volunteers have asked to join.
