Award: Brazilian Women Making a Difference

March, 2022 - Sineia Bezerra do Vale, a Brazilian indigenous leader and environment activist from the Wapichana People, was one of the seven recipients of the 2022 Brazilian Women Making a Difference Award from the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil. 

The award recognizes the women who are making a positive impact in their communities and was announced on March 8, in celebration of Women’s History Month. Their voices have positively impacted Brazil and beyond, generating structural transformations in society.

Sineia is Coordinator of the Environmental Department of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) and has represented the Brazilian Indigenous population in national and international events for more than one decade. She is a recognized expert on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

“It’s an honor to be able to recognize these remarkably talented Brazilians.
