Webinar on Results from the Public Use Component of the Partnership for Conservation of Amazon Biodiversity

From October 2014 – June 2020, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) established the “Partnership for the Conservation of Amazon Biodiversity (PCAB)”, a platform for collaboration between U.S. and Brazilian federal, state, and local natural resource agencies, universities, communities and NGOs to expand the capacity to design and implement public use programs in Brazil’s protected areas. The program was centered on strengthening the capacity of Brazil’s Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) in public use planning, trail construction and management, environmental interpretation, visitation monitoring, demonstration sites, concessions, and partnership development. Through integration of these components, social engagement and strong cooperation among partners, PCAB’s public use program achieved significant, long-lasting outcomes and benefits for Brazil’s national parks and forests.

To share  these accomplishments, the USFS will run a webinar on results from PCAB’s public use program. On Thursday, December 17th from 12:00-13:00 EST (14:00-15:00 Brasilia) they will host a trilingual webinar (Portuguese, English, and Spanish). The event will consist of a brief overview of PCAB’s Public Use Program, followed by a panel discussion. Panelists from USFS, ICMBio, and one of the partner Universities will discuss key accomplishments, strategic approaches, significant outcomes, and lessons learned during program implementation.
